Daniel Matthew Silvernail Architect is a member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC), which promotes the design, construction, and operation of buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work. We work with our clients to develop their program and determine their needs and desires. We then create a design that incorporates sustainable design principles through passive solar, energy efficient systems and earth friendly building materials. Our offerings of services include facilitation in support of LEED certification. Our Principal, Daniel Silvernail, has been involved in environmentalism since the early 1970’s as a student of ecology he was exposed to human impacts on the global ecology including anthropogenic climate change (“global warming”). Subsequently entering the field of architecture he attended the graduate program at the University of Oregon where he was exposed to the ethos and methodologies of influential environmental architects including Virginia Cartwright, G.Z. Brown, and Peter Calthorpe. In 1997 Daniel designed the first strawbale house to obtain permits in Santa Cruz County. He has served on the Advisory Board of CASBA (California Straw Building Association) since 2003 and has recently been appointed to the steering committee of the Monterey Bay Chapter of USGBC where he is serving as coordinator of corporate sponsorship. Senior Designer Cheri Marden of Daniel Matthew Silvernail Architect is an accredited LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) professional and a California Green Building Professional through Build it Green. These associations continuously develop our knowledge of environmentally conscious building practices and assist us in achieving new levels of expertise in green design. We at Daniel Matthew Silvernail Architect believe that architecture and environmental responsibility go hand in hand, and that an environmentally responsible building will have a minimum impact on natural resources while not sacrificing the beauty of architecture. We believe that sustainable features in a building should be as essential as the roof that protects it from the elements. Our mission is to be your LEED source for innovative, cost effective, environmentally responsible, architectural design solutions. |
